Kaikokan (former Iida Family Residence), a Nationally Registered Tangible Cultural Property

The former Iida Family Residence “Kaikokan” was built about 200 years ago in the irimoya-zukuri style with a thatched roof, and is located next to the Nanao Castle History Museum. The thatched roof is beautiful, and in 2006 it was designated a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.

The 500 tsubo garden is a garden with many cedar groves. Moss grows easily in this environment, and more than 40 varieties of moss cover the garden.

A large number of exhibits are on display, ranging from tools for daily use to antique artifacts. A thorough tour of the museum will take about an hour, while a quick look around will take about 30 minutes. Please enjoy the museum together with the adjacent “Nanao Castle Museum”.
