Noto Satoyama Satoumi Museum
In the rich environment nurtured by the mild climate and topography of the Noto Peninsula, our ancestors have lived a valuable life in harmony with nature, and have preserved and passed it on. The satoyama and satoumi lifestyles that have been preserved throughout the Noto region have been recognized as a World Agricultural Heritage site.
Nanao City, which has prospered as the political, economic, and cultural center of Noto since ancient times, still retains a rich variety of traditional culture, including the culture of the townspeople and port towns, and the religious culture of the mountain temple complexes, which have formed a distinctive satoyama and satoumi.
Noto Province was established in the 2nd year of Yoro (718). On October 28, 2018, 1,300 years after the establishment of Noto Province, the “Noto Satoyama Satoumi Museum” was opened. The museum aims to communicate Noto’s rich nature, long history, and culture, and to convey the charms of satoyama and satoumi, and to develop them into the future.
