Seihakusai Festival
UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Three powerful Dekayama are all on parade!
This is the spring festival of the Otokonushi Shrine (Sanno Shrine) in Nanao City. The name comes from the ritual of serving the food to the gods on blue oak leaves. It is the largest festival in Noto and is recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The floats, called “dekayama,” are the largest in Japan, with a 12-meter-high, 20-ton float and 2-meter-diameter wheels. Three floats are dedicated from Kaji-machi, Fuchu-machi, and Uo-machi in the city to compete in their grandeur. Visitors also have a chance to pull the floats!
